Why are you running for the U.S. Senate?

  • U.S. Senator

    • Kelly Tshibaka

      Republican candidate for U.S. Senator

I was born and raised in Alaska and my parents were homeless for a while. They fought their way into the working class — my dad worked as a union electrician and my mom worked at the startup of Prudhoe Bay. I was the first in my family to pursue a college degree, and then I went on to law school, where I met my husband, Niki, the son of an African immigrant. Together, we have five children.

I’m running for the Senate because the people of Alaska stood up for me and gave me opportunities. Now I want to stand up for the people of Alaska.

Our resource industries and economy have been destroyed by Joe Biden and his radical cabinet members — nearly all of whom were confirmed by our 21-year Senate incumbent.

I’ve spent my career holding government insiders accountable. I will fight to make government work for the people of Alaska, instead of working against us. I am from Alaska and for Alaska. When I represent Alaska in the Senate, I will never forget the Alaskans who sent me there.

    • Lisa Murkowski

      Republican candidate for U.S. Senator

I care deeply about Alaska, the land and its people. This is my home, where I was born and raised, and where my husband and I have chosen to raise our sons. I want to continue serving the state I love and to build an even better, more prosperous future for all who call Alaska home. I’m proud of my record of accomplishment for Alaskans, and my seniority in Congress is increasingly key to our ability to enact policies that benefit our state. Looking ahead, I want to boost responsible resource development to create jobs, to build infrastructure that connects Alaskans and improves our quality of life, to sustain our world-class fisheries, to enhance our food security, to help ensure veterans receive the benefits they deserve, to honor our elders, to protect our children and to safeguard our communities.

    • Patricia Chesbro

      Democratic candidate for U.S. Senator

As a longtime educator, I find myself increasingly concerned for our children and young people. At a time in their lives when they should be feeling hopeful and optimistic about the opportunities that lie ahead, they see division, disrespect and intolerance in the language of local and national leaders. They see efforts to take away rights that have been fought for and respected for many years, including a woman’s right to choose, and they wonder which rights will be next. They see thwarted efforts to address climate changes that endanger our earth. They see ongoing gun violence that takes young lives through suicide and homicide. I say, the elected leaders of our country set the tone for this nation. They either model the behavior we want for our children, or foster cynicism and hopelessness. I am running to address these and the many other issues that threaten our children’s future. I am running to help set a positive tone.
